Taking place from 15-16 May at the Eurostars Lisboa in Parque das Nações and organised in collaboration by the Portuguese LSC association Associação Portuguesa de Empresas de Tradução (APET) and the EUATC, promises to be a transformative event for the language industry.
Speaking about the event, which was announced at the end of Helsinki Language Summit in September last year, APET President Marta Aragão said: “We chose the theme, Step Outside the Box, very deliberately. The landscape for the sector is changing so rapidly, there is definitely a need for some blue sky thinking and we will be bringing together global visionaries to explore the future of international communication through innovative translation technologies, AI integration, and cross-sector applications.
“Above, the event aims to foster collaboration, inspire change, and set a new standard for ethical innovation in language services.
“The Lisbon Language Summit 2025 will not be your typical conference and we will ready to tackle the questions that keep us all up at night. We aim to foster innovation, encourage collaboration, and explore new business models, trends, and technologies that are shaping our industry. Expect stimulating discussions, visionary ideas, and answers to the big questions.”
Call for Papers
A formal call for paper will be issued in the next week, but the organising committee will be seeking papers that offer bold ideas from across the full spectrum of the industry, be they from boutique agencies, tech firm, or students seeking to forge a career in the sector.
The format will be a TEDx-style stage, keynote slots, topic talks and expert panel discussions.
“We are committed to leading this transformation of our industry with integrity. Together, we will establish best practices that guide the responsible development and application of technology, ensuring that innovation serves the needs of all stakeholders, from translators and interpreters to clients and end-users.
“By fostering collaboration across borders and sectors, we aim to create a future where technology and human expertise work hand in hand to elevate the language industry and its impact on global communication,” concluded Aragão.
