Meet Central Europe in Prague…and that’s a wrap!

Meet Central Europe, the regional conference kick-started with funding from the EUATC, has concluded its sixth edition in Prague.

The event, attended by delegates from 22 countries, made a subtle detour from its usual Vendor Manager focus and included presentations from more buy-side leaders, but added new features too.

The Hot Chip Question challenge was one such feature. Moderated by Meet Central Europe committee member and memoQ‘s CEO Balazs Kis, the rest of the committee, Giada Gerotto (who chaired the committee), Marina Pantcheva, PhDElisa PollastriniLaszlo K Varga  and Miklos Ban lined up to tackle the audience’s hottest industry questions determined by a live Slido poll with a prize going to the toughest question.

The winning question, “Is downsizing for language teams (LSPs, buyer side) inevitable? If it is, is it temporary? How can you structure it?” was posed by BeLazy‘s Istvan Lengyel, who won a bottle of Czech-style absinth, which he generously shared out during the gala dinner.

Another deviation was an hour-long workshop on AI prompting delivered at pace to a packed plenary session by Marina Pantcheva RWS‘s Director of Linguistic AI Services. Her top take-aways when working with LLMs

  • Be clear with your prompts
  • Provide relevant examples
  • Clean your data for accuracy
  • Be positive
  • Remove bias
  • Think step by step to guide AI effectivel

Making a welcome return to the Meet Central Europe stage was Tommaso Rossi now of Spotify, but formerly with Expedia Group.

He gave delegates some realistic buy-side pointers about what a significant global purchaser of localization services, such as Spotify, is looking for in suppliers and how those relationships can be best optimised.

Next edition of MCE

A decision about the format, date and city for the next edition of Meet Central Europe will be announced shortly.
