Who says the Germans don't have a sense of humour? With the news that the organisers of the second Meet Central Europe had selected Germany to be this year's spotlight country at its conference in Prague (10/11 October), the EUATC's German member, Qualitäts-Sprachendienste Deutschlands (QSD), set about promoting the event with a symbol drawing on some familiar iconic symbols of the country.

Speaking on behalf of QSD, Udo Leinhäuser, who will be driving the marketing of MCE in Germany said: "We anticipate that large numbers of German LSPs and language professionals will want to head for Prague and we are confident that our designers have come up with a logo that will not only bring a smile to everyone in the indusrty who sees it, but also get them to register at the special discount rate QSD has negotiated with the organisers."

A new feature of Meet Central Europe that is attracting LSPs not only from Germany but from the rest of Europe, is the Jobs Fair on the Wednesday before the main event. Local host, Radka Vegrichtova, Board member of Meet Central Europe and President of EUATC's Czech member the Association of Czech Translation Agencies (ACTA) commented: "The Fair will be an opportunity for our freelance colleagues to meet with LSPs from across Europe and present their credentials. We are really encouraged by the response we've had from company and freelance communities."
