Former EUATC President, Mirko Silvestrini, has been appointed as the association’s EU Ambassador. His role will be to work through the the EUATC board and support the President, Heike Leinhäuser, who remains the EU and Commission’s principal point of contact.
Commenting Heike Leinhäuser, said: “There are many different language sector initiatives being driven by the European Commission and being able to draw on the vast experience of Mirko Silvestrini as an ambassador will be a great boon for the whole of the association and be a tremendous support to me.
“Mirko has played a crucial role in the past and I am delighted that the EUATC will be able draw on his experience going forward.”
Mirko Silvestrini is President of the EUATC’s Italian member UNILINGUE.
The second appointment, endorsed during the EUATC’s first virtual General Meeting held last month, is Dr Juan José Arevalillo PhD. He has been named as the EUATC’s Youth Ambassador.
Apart from being President of ASPROSET, the EUATC’s Spanish member, he is a former Vice President of the EUATC. Importantly, he is currently a lecturer on scientific and technical translation and localization at Alfonso X el Sabio in Madrid and Valencian International University in Valence.
Speaking about his appointment, Heike Leinhäuser said: “It is vital that the EUATC plays a role in supporting the next generation of language industry professionals and is able to provide undergraduates with a clear idea about the company sector, its expectations as employers and the role it plays in the wider language industry eco-system. Juanjo Arevalillo’s personal experience both as the owner of a successful translation company and as an academic, makes him the ideal appointment for this important role.”
