The study, which is now in its thirteenth year, will be open for responses until midnight CET on Saturday, 31st January.
ELIS focuses on the industry trends, expectations and concerns of a wide range of language industry stakeholders, including language service companies, independent language professionals, training institutes with translation and interpreting-related training programmes, students studying in those institutions, language departments in private companies, public administrations, and language service buyers. The survey has specific strands aimed at those diverse segments of the language industry landscape.
Commenting to Rudy Tirry, ELIS Research Director (pictured right) said: “As expected, the ELIS core remains largely untouched, but most questionnaires 
have been edited to address changing information needs. Where appropriate for the respective segments, the questionnaires dive deeper into topics that were poorly or not addressed at all in previous editions. Actual post-editing and discount practices, and the way that the industry deals with diversity and inclusivity are examples of such additions.
“Other topics that were extensively covered in previous editions or that do not require annual monitoring have been reduced in scope or even completely removed from certain questionnaires having consulted extensively in those areas of the language industry.”
ELIS was originally initiated by European Union of Associations of Translation Companies (EUATC) and is now a joint initiative by international language industry associations and organisations. Apart from the EUATC, those participating are the European Language Industry Association (Elia), the European Master’s in Translation (EMT), the European Regional Centre of the International Federation of Translators (FIT Europe), the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA), the European Commission’s Language Industry Platform (LIND) and Women in Localization (WiL).
The results will be unveiled and dissected by an expert panel during a free-to-attend Translation Europe Workshop webinar organised by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Translation (DGT). That will take place on Tuesday 17th March 2026 between 16:00 till 17:30 CET. Survey participants will be able to pre-register for the event after submitting their responses to the survey.
